If you’re dreaming of a romantic, carefree engagement session surrounded by nature, look no further than this Summer Field & Lake Engagement Photo Inspiration! Maddie and Hunter’s session perfectly captured their adventurous spirits, love for the outdoors, and a hint of western charm—setting the stage for their upcoming Grand Teton National Park elopement in Wyoming.
From golden fields to a lakeside sunset, this session had everything: playful energy, stunning scenery, and even some unexpected duck cameos! I’m so excited to share their photos and give you some ideas for your own outdoor engagement session.
When Maddie and Hunter reached out for engagement photos, they wanted a setting that reflected their love for the outdoors while also incorporating a bit of the western aesthetic they’ll be embracing for their Wyoming elopement. We landed on the perfect combination: an open field with dreamy golden hues, followed by a fun and playful session at a lake. The result? A session full of love, laughter, and carefree summer vibes.
We kicked off their session in a vast, sun-soaked field, where the warm summer light created the perfect glow. Maddie and Hunter wanted a laid-back, romantic feel to their photos, so we embraced movement and spontaneity—walking through tall grasses, twirling, and capturing candid moments that showcased their connection.
To tie in the western feel of their upcoming elopement, they brought along cowboy hats and Maddie’s cowgirl boots, which added the perfect touch of personality to the session. There’s something so effortless about adding meaningful details like these—it makes the session uniquely yours!
A tip for couples planning an outdoor engagement session: incorporate personal elements! Whether it’s a hat, a blanket, or an outfit that represents your style, these little touches can make your engagement photos feel even more special.
After soaking up the beauty of the open fields, we made our way to a nearby lake for the second half of their session. Waterfront engagement photos always bring an extra element of magic, and this session was no exception!
Maddie and Hunter embraced the moment fully—running barefoot in the sand, splashing in the water, and completely leaning into the carefree vibe. One of my favorite moments? A group of ducks decided to join the photos, creating the most unexpected and fun photobomb. We took full advantage, capturing some of the most fun, candid shots of the evening.
As the sun dipped lower, we wrapped up the session with some final playful shots in the water. Maddie and Hunter splashed toward the camera, creating a fun, cinematic ending to the night. These types of moments always make for the best memories—completely unscripted, full of laughter, and 100% them.
This session was everything I love about summer engagement photos: golden light, warm air, and couples who aren’t afraid to have fun!
Here’s why fields + lakes make for the perfect summer engagement session backdrop:
If you’re considering an engagement session in nature, think about locations that fit your personality as a couple. Whether it’s a mountaintop, a hidden field, or a lake you both love, the right setting can make your photos feel even more meaningful.
Maddie and Hunter’s engagement session was such a blast, and I cannot wait to photograph their upcoming elopement in Grand Teton National Park! The rugged mountain landscapes, expansive skies, and wild beauty of Wyoming are going to be the perfect backdrop for their vows.
After their adventure-filled elopement, they’ll be celebrating back home with a reception at a local park with their friends and family. My associate photographer will be capturing the reception while I focus on their epic elopement photos in the Tetons!
It’s such an honor to be a part of both parts of their love story, from this carefree summer engagement session to their adventure-filled wedding plans. Stay tuned for more from their incredible journey!
